PROGRAM

At Freedom House, we offer a daily program that will give each man the tools he needs to recover from active addiction. In conjunction without outside resources, the program we offer at FHRS can give (providing the client brings the willingness) freedom from active addiction. 

Psycho-social Supports


Policy:

The Freedom House Support Recovery Program will provide in-house Psycho-social Support services for residents recovering from alcoholism and drug addiction:

  • Group recovery counselling;
  • Step groups based on the 12 Step philosophy;
  • Relapse prevention education;
  • Life skills.

Residents may also be assisted to access community based recovery services extra to the above, including but not limited to additional counselling services, educational upgrading, employment preparation, … .

Purpose:

  • To support individuals who want to recover from addiction by gaining insight about how addiction affects themselves and through development of a belief system, a life style and support systems that will create and sustain resiliency to addiction
  • To assist residents to achieve maximum independence, increased self management and enhanced quality of life, and to successfully return to the community.
  • To comply with ALR Standard 8.1 (Registrant Handbook, Standard 8, pages 47 and 50 to 52).

Procedures:

Freedom House is responsible to ensure that:

  1. Prospective residents are informed of psycho-social support services before move-in and advised that active participation is a condition of residency (Program Description/Conditions of Residency);
  2. Each residents participation in psycho-social support services is in accordance with individual needs and personal goals determined by the resident and his counsellor;
  3. Each resident reviews his needs, goals and services with his counsellor on an ongoing basis;
  4. Psycho-social support services are adjusted in accordance with the residents changing needs and goals;
  5. Each resident’s personal services plan includes a current and up to date description of the residents needs and goals and of the psycho-social supports indicated to meet those needs and goals;
  6. Staff who provide psycho-social support services:
    1. Are given a thorough orientation to the services on commencement of employment;
    2. Are qualified to provide the services;
    3. Have job descriptions that set out their role in providing psycho-social supports; and
    4. Are supported through supervision and ongoing training;
  7. Counselors do not provide assessment or in depth treatment for mental disorders, trauma, sexual abuse or complex interpersonal issues, even where related to substance use, and assist residents who request such assessment and treatment to access professionally qualified clinical practitioners in the community.
